The Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB) is a growing phenomenon. Located in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala, RGCB began in 1990 amongst humble surroundings as a small charitable society called the Centre for Development of  Education, Science and Technology (C-DEST). In 1991, recognizing its potential, the C-DEST was made a Grant-in-Aid institute of the Government of Kerala and renamed as Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Development of  Education, Science and Technology (RGC-DEST), becoming the first institute in the country to be named after Sri Rajiv Gandhi, former Prime Minster of India.  

Post : Project Research Scientist- II

Applications are invited from suitable candidates (Indian Citizens) for one position of Project Research Scientist- II (Non-Medical) in the ICMR funded project “Creation of a national network of existing and upcoming high risk pathogen laboratories (BSL-3/4) across departments and keeping their interlinkages” in the Biosafety Level -3 (BSL3) Laboratory under the guidance of Dr. Rajesh Chandramohanadas at the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB), Akkulam Campus, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. 

Essential Qualifications : First Class Post-Graduate Degree in Life Sciences with PhD in Molecular Biology or Microbiology and strong background in Infectious Disease research. 

Desirable Qualifications : 2 years research experience after completion of PhD, in areas related to microbial cell culture (BSL2+), diagnostic assay development or screening. Prior experience in field sample collection, processing, documentation, record keeping and lab management would be an advantage. 

Age : Below 35 years as on May 10, 2024. Age relaxation will be given as per Govt. of India norms. 

Emolument : Rs. 67,000/- + 18% HRA per month. 

Duration : Initially for a period of one year and extendable for one more year or till termination of the project whichever is earlier based on performance evaluation on yearly basis. 

Selection Process 
1. Applications should be submitted online.
2. Candidates who are currently working in Government firms should send applications through proper channel.
3. Last date for receiving completed applications is May 10, 2025.
4. If a candidate wishes to apply for different positions, separate applications should be submitted for each position. Selection to the position will not entitle the candidate to any future positions at RGCB (permanent or otherwise). As with all project positions at RGCB, the position will be co terminus with end of the project.

Applications which are not in the prescribed format or without any proof of experience will summarily be rejected.

No TA/ DA will be given for appearing in the interview.
Only those fulfilling the above criteria need apply. Applicants will be short listed for the walk in interview based on eligibility criteria. Selection of suitable candidates will be made based on qualifications and performance in the selection interview.
