The National Centre for Cell Science (NCCS) is an autonomous institution of Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, for a mandate of basic research, teaching & training, and as a national rep ository for cell lines/hybridomas etc. The Centre is located in the midst of academically enriched environment of Savitribai Phule Pune University Campus, Pune. NCCS invites applications for following posts on various extramural projects purely on temporary basis.

Desirable Experience: A.1: Experience in molecular cloning, plasmid construction, and transformation techniques in various host/chassis organisms.
A.2: Experience in microbial DNA and RNA extraction, PCR-based assays, library preparations and analysis of genomics and metatranscriptomics data.

Senior Project Associate (SPA)

Position 2: Experience in extraction and profiling of microbial metabolites using GC-MS and interpretation of metabolic data from engineered strains.
Position 3: Experience in high-volume microbial culture handling, passaging, and revivability checks for long-term maintenance.
Position 4: Expertise in culturing and maintaining anaerobic, cyanobacterial, and photoautotrophic microbes under controlled lab conditions.

Project Scientist III

Desirable Experience: Position 1: Proficient in systems biology approaches including genome-scale metabolic modelling, multi-omics data integration, and computational simulations for strain design. Should have experience with tools such as MATLAB, R, Python, and relevant bioinformatics pipelines.
Position 2: Comprehensive understanding of microbial resource management with proven experience in handling large-scale culture collections, coordinating deposition and supply logistics, preparing technical reports, and curating microbial data. Familiarity with regulatory frameworks, documentation practices, and microbial databases is essential.

Position 2: In-depth experience in microbial genome sequencing using next- generation sequencing platforms, genome assembly, annotation pipelines, and comparative genomics. Familiarity with microbial taxonomy, genome quality assessment, and databases such as NCBI, IMG, and GTDB is essential.
Position 3 : Proven experience in isolation, cultivation, and molecular characterization of cyanobacteria, photoautotrophs, and anaerobic microbes under controlled conditions.

ii. The selection process through National Level examinations conducted by
Central Government Departments and their Agencies and Institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MoE, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER, NISER etc.
Desirable Experience : Candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas will be preferred to work on an exciting project in neurodegenerative diseases
• PCR/ Primer design, site-directed mutagenesis, cloning, and DNA sequence analysis.
• Experience with E. coli or mammalian cell-based protein purification methods using automated systems.
• Experience with mammalian cell culture including iPSC culture Expected to have precise pipetting skills and a strong interest to learn data analysis.

ii. The selection process through National Level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their Agencies and Institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MoE, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER, NISER etc.
Desirable Experience : Candidate should be knowing basic molecular biology skills (cloning, Protein purification).
Project Tenure: Up to 02/04/2026
Total Monthly Emoluments : Rs. 35,000/- + HRA (Enhancement of fellowship subjected to DBT approval)

Other important Points
1. The Director (Additional Charge), NCCS reserves the right to cancel the recruitment process, if required.
2. The prescribed educational essential qualifications and experience are the bare minimum and mere possession of same does not entitle candidates to be called for the Interviews. The Centre reserves the right to call for Interviews only those candidates who in its opinion are likely to be suitable.
3. Candidates not having Final / Provisional Degree certificate as per the Essential qualification signed by the Institutional/ University Competent authority are not eligible to apply.
4. The above advertised positions are filled up purely on temporary basis for the limited time on the extramural projects funded by various funding agencies. The position will automatically co-terminus on the completion of the candidate’s tenure. The appointed person shall have no claim of appointment/absorption in funding agency or in NCCS, Pune.
5. Fellowship/Emoluments: Emoluments to the research personnel engaged under project will be made in accordance with the sanction order or latest O.M from DST, ANRF etc., whichever the case may be.
6. Age relaxation will be considered as on 08/08/2025. Age relaxation will be 5 years in case of Women/SC/ST/PH candidates and 3 years in case of OBC candidates as per Government of India rules. OBC candidates must produce latest/valid non-creamy layer certificate.
7. No TA/DA will be admissible for attending the interview.
